Woman gives birth to Quintapulets in KGH- three survive

VISAKHAPATNAM: A woman gave birth to quintuplets at the King George Hospital (KGH) on Friday. One of the three girls died soon after birth while the remaining girls and two boys are fine.

Behera Roopa, 20, of Palasa in Srikakulam district, was admitted on Friday. Doctors performed a caesarean and around 1 p.m. Durga Prasad, who was on duty at the Children’s Ward, said that giving birth to quintuplets was rare. But for one baby girl, who died, the condition of the mother and the remaining kids was fine. “The babies are very active and their birth weight is also good,” he said.

Roopa’s mother Mrs. Jamuna Behera said, “This is the first time that five babies were born in a single issue in any of the families of our relatives. Roopa’s husband Uma Shankar is a private bus conductor in Palasa.”

Mrs. Jamuna looked pensive as her daughter had fever and was worried about the condition of the infants. Dr. Durga Prasad assured her there was nothing to worry. There was a steady stream of visitors and media persons at the Children’s Ward on hearing the news.
